Unslept

Don’t give them words,
Our tales are best
Unsaid.

Don’t give them tears,
Let vows remain
Unkept.

Don’t give them names,
Our sins are best
Unread.

Don’t give them dreams,
Let nights remain
Unslept.

Friday Nights

Friday Nights

You are like Friday nights
After days of wearing masks
Of slaves of different lives
I come to you as free.

You are like Friday nights
After days being someone else
And tired of envy and lies
I come to you as me.

You are my Friday nights
Where leaving the fool’s battle
Of a worldly week behind
I am where I need be.

Knock

Years have gone since we last met
Yet even today when there is a knock
I wonder if that is you.

The world I greet at that doorstep
Sometimes my longing too right there
Wishing only if it was you.

Your Name

Eyes were moist, so was my sky
When I stopped again tonight.

And once more I kept your name
Safe in me where all scars hide.

Complaints

Complaints

Let all complaints fade
And tears put up
No fight.

When I seek my hearth
In your lips again
Tonight.

Let that furnace burn
When a city goes
To sleep.

And a lover’s sketch
On a lover goes
Skin deep.

The Wordweaver

Wordweaver

Breaking the soft morning mist
We shall meet again that winter
Somewhere like two strangers.

Your teen shadow, excited
Will bring you to the wordweaver
Whose verses have long
Taken her to sleep
Since your lullabies no longer.

And you, more nervous today
And still, more beautiful than ever
Will hold again my fingers
That once loved you
Those days that lost summer.

When your stealing eyes meet me
We will be amidst all there,
And yet far away that day
“Why still now?” they will ask
“Why no one else ever?”

And my silent smile will reply
In words that you always knew
On that far away winter.

Your Lips

Your Lips

And then
Closing your eyes
When you gently lose
your lips in mine.

I will too
Find life once more
In some raindrops and
your lips tonight.

© Arindam Dey

Silence

I wait for words
As my pen dries up
in denial.

No, tonight is not
for words
Its only about silence.

A little left on your lips
And some
left in my heart.

Destroyed

Destroyed

Yes, true
I was destroyed
that moment
our eyes first met.

All I do now
Is collect
the broken pieces
from time.

Where a little of you
still remains
And some of me
still loves.

Home

Home

Once more on that road
Busy with the steps
Of those coming home.

I stay back a while
To breathe a little more
Of that lonely corner.

Where once in the rain
You had kissed me
And for once I was home.

Footprints

I look at open roads
And it whispers to me
Distant tales left behind
By old lost footprints.

And I wonder to whom
It has whispered our story
I wonder who now lives
A little you, a little me.

© Arindam Dey

And Me

I walk home tonight
on a tired road,
Kissed by falling drops.

Oh, how long have we
longed for you,
The rains, the road and me.

© Arindam Dey

Lost Stranger

Far across the raindrops
In those blank skies
I search my words.

It has been so long
Since my poetry
Has deserted me.

And yet, every night
I long for you
My lost stranger.

Perhaps someday
You will come back
As a tear or a lost verse.

But not tonight
Not tonight…

© Arindam Dey

My Own

Some hours I live
With an old us
In this walk alone.

For days that pass
Like an old debt
Of a life unknown.

Some hours of you
Are all that stay
Back like my own.

© Arindam Dey

Endure

Let me die once tonight
And come to meet you love
Far there amidst the stars.

For a thousand more lives
I will endure with a smile
If this moment is ours.

Monsoons

When a few more
monsoons have crossed
and the heavens
have mourned enough
keeping us apart.

I will come to you again.

Do love me back
once more that night
like thunderstorms
you swept me like, before
the monsoons came.

© Arindam Dey

Never the Same

They break on me
tonight
Like old memories
As they sing to me
your name.

But without that
poetry
Of your lips in mine
Even rains are never
the same.

© Arindam Dey

The Alleys

Do you still read
those words I wrote
in that last note
to you
that day it rained?

Do you still miss
those puddles where
we used to jump
in alleys
where love remained?

© Arindam Dey

Hidden

In less explored
corners of smiles
Wrapped well in
enough lies,
I keep you hidden.

What if they see
that lone raindrop
When it leaves
my eyes, so
I keep you hidden.

An Old Note

I press the folded edges
As the creases start to break
The old paper tries hard
To hold on that little longer
Its slowly fading vows.

Vows that you once wrote
Before you left that morning
After that night of storms
When my lips wrote their own
On your naked heart.

The letter has grown old
Like the eyes that look for you
And fingers that still try
To find that touch once known
Left in those withered lines.

One day when years pass
And lost are the lines forever
A hand will hold that note
Searching two ancient lovers
And a vow will be complete.

Little Death

A little death
I die every night
To meet you
In my dreams.

As I wait for
That eternal sleep
Where you and I
Live those dreams.

© Arindam Dey

Despair

Yes you left that day
For your wings were too bright
To fly the barren skies
Of this dead world oh dear.

And so I still collect
Those pieces you left behind
Some verses of old joys
And some songs of despair.

My Doe Eyed Girl

I will kiss once more
My doe eyed girl
When her eyes plead
My lips to drown
In her tonight.

I will love her hard
Like thirsty lands
When her eyes close
And her lips lose
In that moonlight.

I will hold her close
For she will drop
Her veil that guards
A heart that awaits
A proof of love.

I will love her again
My doe eyed girl
When a naked night
Hides us from all
And makes us one.

Old

They say your sight betrays
when you cross too many years.

Across the road there afar
I saw you standing today
Perhaps someone else, I thought
After all, I am old now.

But tears peeped out just then
As a smile lined up my lips
What if so my old eyes betrayed
My throbs did always know.

And I just left with that old smile
Oh when will my heart grow.

You and Me

That one night,
some lost hours
And a place unseen
Just you and me…

That marked skin,
some lost sweat
Two painted souls
If sin so be…

That lone tear,
some lost dreams
And a life undone
If you could see…

That dry nib,
some lost words
And a tale untold
Of you and me…
